Understanding Cart Abandonment Automation

Learn how BusinessChat determines triggers, exits, conversions, and completion conditions for cart abandonment automation.

Updated yesterday

Cart abandonment automation helps re-engage contacts who added items to their cart but did not complete the purchase. This guide explains the conditions that govern when a contact enters, exits, converts, or completes the automation.

Trigger Conditions

A contact enters the cart abandonment automation when:

  1. They added items to the cart but did not complete the purchase within four hours AND

  2. During this period, they did not create any new orders AND

  3. The contact has not opted out of business messages.

Attention

Upon the first activation of the automation, the system includes abandoned carts up to 3 days old.

Exit Conditions

A contact exits the automation if:

  1. They opt out of business messages during the automation OR

  2. They start a new cart abandonment automation OR

  3. They create a new order while the automation is running, but the order conversion is not attributed to this automation.

Conversion Conditions

A contact is considered converted when:

  • They create a new order while the automation is running AND

  • The order conversion is attributed to this automation campaign.

Completed Conditions

The automation is considered completed for a contact when:

  1. They finish all steps of the automation OR

  2. They convert, and the conversion is attributed to this automation.

💡 Tip

Understanding these conditions helps ensure accurate tracking of cart abandonment campaigns and effective re-engagement of contacts.
